Artistic Journey
Born in Jaffa into a Lithuanian Jewish family, Théo Tobiasse moved to France in the 1930s. During the Occupation, he lived in hiding in Paris—an experience that would profoundly shape his work. After the war, he worked in advertising and graphic design while painting in parallel.
In the 1960s, he gained recognition with his large figurative compositions, brimming with symbols and blending memories of exile, Jewish heritage, biblical scenes, and universal themes such as love and music. Settling in Nice, he joined the artistic circle of the Côte d’Azur alongside Chagall and Arman.
Tobiasse worked in painting, engraving, lithography, sculpture, and also created stained-glass windows and mosaics. His works, combining lyricism, memory, and colorful exuberance, have been exhibited worldwide.
