Steve Kaufman – Neo-Pop
Full name: Steven Alan Kaufman

Birth: Bronx, New York, United States

Training: New York School of Visual Arts

Movement: Pop Art, Neo-Pop, Warhol’s Factory
Artistic Journey
A prodigy from the Bronx, Steve Kaufman exhibited as early as his teenage years at the Whitney Museum. While studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York, he became Andy Warhol’s assistant at the Factory, where he mastered silkscreen techniques and the appropriation of images. In the 1980s, he forged his own identity: highly colorful, accessible works inspired by American popular culture, cinema, music, and political icons.
Kaufman distinguished himself through his social engagement: he employed former homeless individuals and ex-prisoners in his studio and participated in charitable projects. His creations, warmer and more expressive than Warhol’s, aimed to make Pop Art more human and emotional.
