Full Name: Albert Louis Schupbach
Place of Birth: Geneva, Switzerland
Education: École des Beaux-Arts de Genève
Movement: School of Nice

Artistic Career
Albert Chubac began his artistic career in figurative painting before turning to abstraction following his encounter with Nicolas de Staël in 1949. He settled permanently in Aspremont, near Nice, in 1960. Influenced by his travels around the Mediterranean, particularly in Egypt, Greece, and Spain, he developed a palette of vivid colors and a sculptural approach to painting. His works incorporate a variety of materials, including wood, cardboard, plexiglass, and wire. He is recognized for his modifiable sculptures and relief collages.
Major Works
Orange, Yellow, Pink Modifiable Sculpture: 1967 (from the “Modifiables” series). The One Arty Minute record does not indicate a year, but a Chubac Modifiable dated 1967 is preserved at MAMAC (Nice), situating this typology firmly in the mid-1960s.
White Parallelepiped with Green Sphere: circa 1980. The catalogue raisonné does not provide a date; a very similar sculpture (“tall white lacquered rectangle, mobile sphere”) appeared in a sale labeled “Aspremont” (no year), and comparable lacquered mobiles are dated 1980 in auction records.
Collage with Orange Stripes: circa 1980. Chubac’s geometric collages are consistently referenced around 1980 (e.g., “Collage, circa 1980” on 1stDibs and multiple sales “circa 1980”).
